Lindon Leader’s the “FedEx” logo vas very important to the design world. His logo is one of the most known logos today in the United States and even throughout the world. The logo is very simple but if you look closely you will notice what makes it different. In between the E and the X there is an arrow pointing out to the right. It is said that the arrow represents a hint of motion. Often when looking at the logo, most will not notice the significant detail. I know I didn’t until I did the research. But after seeing it once it’s something that will always stand out.  The logo is used in all the different companies of FedEx such as FedEx Express, FedEx Freight, FedEx Ground, FedEx Kinko's, FedEx Trade Networks, and FedEx Services. The original version of the logo the color of Fed was purple and the Ex was orange. On all the variations of the logo the “Fed” is always purple, but the Ex’s vary. The Ex in the FedEx Freight is Red, the Ex in the Fedex Ground is Green, The Ex in the FedEx Kinkos is Blue, The Ex in the Trade Networks is Yellow, and the Fedex Services is Grey. The logo is used in many places such as the FedEx trucks, Airplanes, on packages, on TV, Print materials, on the web. You will see this logo pretty much anywhere. This logo was made in 1994, at the time Lindon Leader was working as a Senior Design Director at Landor Associates, San Francisco. In an interview Leader said that thought to make an arrow between the E and the X was after many ideas were being reviewed. He said he tried different kinds of arrows before he got to use the final one. The designer also admitted to manipulating the font. He worked with Univers 67 (Bold Condensed) and Futura Bold. Artur Kazak Photo Studies

On my first photo shoot I chose to photograph my friend. I chose to photograph her because she portrays her love for fashion. Her eyelashes were done and she wore a bow and her nose ring. We were doing the photo shoot at her dorm in the Fashion Institute of Technology. I chose her dorm because there was a big window which allows a lot of sunlight to come through. This photo shoot took place in the afternoon so there would be a good amount of sunlight since I know lighting will affect the outcome of my photo. The light I used was Directional light. I had my camera set to Automatic ISO therefore I didn’t have to adjust the ISO. The lighting that came through the window was side lighting because the window was to the right of my friend being photographed. The photo shoot went well but I didn’t know that we had to take multiple shots of each pose, since it was my first photo shoot so I tried capturing different poses throughout the photo shoot. Also the subject moved a lot and wasn’t always comfortable being photographed because she felt her appearance wasn’t right. The next photo shoot took place in my kitchen. I chose wine bottles and flowers because I felt they would make a very nice composition and I really liked the shadow, the bottles made on the table. Also the usual setting for wine bottles is in the kitchen. Since during my still life shooting, I moved a lot the lighting was all over. Sometimes the light came from the side and some shots the light came from the back. This shooting took place in the morning because there was a lot of light and in order to produce beautiful shoots the proper lighting was needed. Throughout the photo shoot I used Automatic ISO just like in the last photo shoot. This photo shoot would be much better if I wouldn’t have changed position every shot. It would be better if I would move after I would capture good shots. I think my photo shoots would improve if I would work more on each pose. Also Automatic ISO isn’t always the best solution; next time I will definitely set the ISO’s to make the amount of light more precise. I think in both of my photo shoots I had a good amount of light to work with. Also as I’m learning more about my Camera I am able to control it more and more. I am now able to modify more setting to make the photo shoots right. Setting such as the white balance to make the color right. That was my experience with my first photo shoots. The Schwarzee Form- Wasily Kandinsky

The Schwarzee form- Wasily Kandinsky The Schwarzee form, also known as the black form, was painted by Wasily Kandinsky. This composition was painted on canvas with oil paints. This image was painted in 1923. Kandinsky’s painting, just like most of his paintings, is abstract and full of various colors. It was constructed with the use of lines and shapes. Examples of the shapes he utilized include triangles, squares, and circles. The use of simple geometric shapes create balance in his work. The development of shapes through overlapping allows them to work together to make the painting appealing to the eye. He creates optical transparency with the circle at the right side of the painting. A cyan circle comes together with a magenta circle and the overlap is in lavender.  Many of the lines overlap throughout this composition and that forms a relationship between each other. He used a vast variety of colors in his painting. He mixed colors with assorted hues and saturations. His composition is comprised of both light and dark colors. The center of the image is the focal point of the painting. Kandinsky is a fascinating artist, whose work I enjoy immensely. I noticed it stood out more than any other work of art in the exhibit because of its defined and distinct unity. Kandinsky often uses a free and abstract style. I like his choices of color: they are extraordinarily elegant and fit the style of the painting. When gazing at the painting, I noticed its simple yet complicated technique. The gradients used inside the circles are extraordinary because they bring attention to the painting. I think the artist made it to make the image less flat and to add more dimension to the image. Around the shapes the negative space was used efficiently in order to create relationships in the art. I disagreed with his use of the white background, although I realize it may be part of his technique in order to create a “popping” image. I choose this particular painting because Kandinsky’s method contrasts against traditional forms of art. I believe adding texture to the painting would have improved it. It would create more contrast and therefore add to its distinct style. I also believe that he should have used a light color as the background in order to make more of a “popping” effect.  This painting is a unique, as well as a fascinating, addition to any collection of art. My visit to the MOMA. Tim Burton exhibition

On my trip to the Museum of Modern Art we went to the Tim Burton exhibition. In the exhibition there was a large variety of different mediums. I noticed his works are very creative and detailed. I discovered he is not limited to types of mediums because his works showed he can work with almost anything. Some of the mediums I noticed that he uses are water color paints, acrylic, oil, pencil sketches, clay, ink, colored pencils, crayon, markers, pastels and many others. He also experiments with all sorts of paper, and canvases. His work can be in black and white or contain a large variety of colors. His work varies from simple yet creative to very complicated. When I was walking through the exhibit I noticed that he isn’t afraid to work with different tools. Three pieces of work that he did that really stood out for me was the Blue Girl with Wine. I also really liked his painting of The Green Man. I also liked his works of Edward Scissorhands. In the painting the Blue Girl with Wine, I really liked the colors he used which were red, black, white, orange, yellow and blue. It was a very strong painting that really stood out. He made this painting in 1997, out of oil paints on canvas. I really liked the composition of this painting and the girl seems very mysterious and just like all of his works out of the ordinary. She has scars everywhere and the bottle of wine she is drinking has the hazard symbol on it. The painting of The Green Man was done around the same time frame as the Blue Girl with Wine. The difference is that he used both Oil and acrylic paints on the canvas. It was very out of the ordinary and the man was also scarred. This painting seemed like Tim Burton used a lot more colors than the last on. I also really like the background of this painting. It was light around the green man but it got darker as it was away from him. Also I really liked the drawing of Edward scissor hands he made. This picture alone was made up of Ink, Crayon, Colored pencil, and correction fluid on paper. I really liked the mysterious look of Edward in this picture. This picture had a lot of scribble looking lines. Certain parts of the picture like the hand lack detail. But other part, such as the face has lots of details and is very dark. This artwork was very mysterious and I got the impression of Edward that he seems alone and very unhappy which is the same feeling I experienced from the movie. Tim Burton’s exhibit was very nice and inspiring. I never realized how much work he did and how creative he is. I definitely wish to see more of his future works.
