Struggles of an upcoming designer

As a student and an upcoming designer, the greatest problems I run into aren't problems such as learning a new program. The problems I face aren't coming up with design solutions for a project. The problems are something that every beginning designer faces, which is grasping on work. As you probably already know about eighty percent of the industry revolves around "freelance" and it is very difficult to get a hold of a large successful company. Many designers work in advertising and design agencies, but that is a similar concept too freelancing because you have to establish a relationship with your clients. To remain successful in this field means going up against many other designers and in order to stay at the top you need to keep your rates low and abilities high. Which many times people don't understand because large portions of the clients think there is no process behind design, therefore they don't understand how difficult the job can be. Example when I was surfing the web i saw logos being sold at 15 dollars apiece. Such a low price can mean one of three things. A designer who reuses his or her designs and won't give you rights to owning it or a designer who puts in no time, or he just doesn't value his time. This is true because branding for a company isn't as easy as it seems. A powerful logo will help business grow and increase its profits. In the end if it doesn't than there absolutely wouldn’t be the point of the logo. A logo is supposed to make your business remembered and easily noticed. Such as coca cola which is a logo recognized all over the world. In every country it is used the same way and consumers recognize it easily. So now how can I obtain clients when people offer unprofessional services for kind of how many U.S jobs go overseas for places that pay less for unskilled work. So what's left to do is update your portfolios and sign up to one of the freelancing websites and gain experience until you obtain clients. This might take time for you to climb the ladder of success but it's a start that requires work. Creativity combined with knowledge will pay off sooner or later. Artur Kazak | Akwebstudio
